Mr. Trump is attempting to create a presidency unconstrained by Congress or the courts in which he and his appointees can override written law when they want to. This is precisely the type of governance our nations’ founders sought to prevent when they wrote the Constitution. Let’s take a look at the Cabinet.

Pam Bondi, the Attorney General of the United States, has failed to comply with a Supreme Court order that the administration “facilitate” Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia’s release from a Salvadoran prison and declared that Abrego Garcia is “not coming back to our country.” Translation: the woman in charge of justice is not in charge of justice.

Doug Collins, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, created a task force asking V.A. employees to report colleagues for any “informal policies, procedures or unofficial understandings hostile to Christian views.”

Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, Announced the shutdown of 83 percent of U.S.A.I.D. programs, such as one that delivers H.I.V. medication in Uganda. Favors a peace agreement that would let Russia keep almost all of the territory it stole from Ukraine — while also preventing Ukraine from joining NATO. Revoked hundreds of student visas, including those of legal permanent residents.

Chris Wright, Secretary of Energy, introduced a reorganization that deemed more than 8,500 employees at the Energy Department as expendable, including some who monitor the nation’s nuclear warheads.

John Ratcliff, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Offered buyouts to the entire C.I.A. workforce. Fired newly hired intelligence officers, and moved to dismiss operatives trained to focus on China. Testified to Congress that — despite not being secure — Signal is an “appropriate” channel to share national security plans.

Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior. Fast-tracking approvals for production of coal, gas and oil on public lands.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services. Pledged to find the cause of autism by September. Laid off Centers for Disease Control and Prevention employees working on gun violence and viral outbreaks. Attempting to drastically cut funding for diabetes, dementia and obesity treatment.
