I did not realize that the statistic was so high. My twins suffered a brain injury at birth due to medical negligence. One is severely disabled and doesn’t speak and uses a wheelchair. The other is doing incredibly well considering how they started out.
Actually, both are doing incredibly well given they began a 1 pound each.
In someways, they are the happiest people I know.
I love that you’re here and sharing your stories. You are a remarkable writer and inspiration.
Thank you Judith for this piece and for everything you share. How everything changes in a blink. Through the actions of another. And sometimes not. My sister suffered a TBI. She died in 2017. She would be 79 tomorrow. Her name was Jo Ann. After my Dad & my Mom. We called her Jody.
I lost my sister in an auto accident involving a drunk driver ... Had she survived she would have been severely disabled ... The brain is a powerful entity ... She chose to exit. She valued movement and sociability .. Lacking these she knew not how to continue. For all that has changed you, your core has survived ... And you use what you have left, and gotten anew, to energize, support, and encourage all those Others similarly changed to carry on.
Just wanted to say I'm sorry you lost your sister. That sounds so devastating that I wouldn't know how to ever pick up the pieces. Do you ever write about her and her story?
Thank you Kirk … That was decades ago, took me two years to come out of the fog . I had just turned 19 and she died a day before her 20th. We were twins for 6 weeks!! No, I'm not a writer but I did do two oil paintings of her. One intentional the other by accident (if you believe in such things 😲😊) .. I can't speak for others but I know I picked up some of her personality and made it my own …
Thank you. I am inspired by you. Please share this work with anyone who might like it. Thank you.

Taut prose, direct statements; these are your instruments in stating the ever-so-important
truth about this TBI hidden epidemic. Thanks so much for this! Your determination
and courage inspire us all.
A very good article, J.
I’ve gotta share, my friend❣️
