An 'interspecies display of kindness' - I love that.

Thanks for the good news and the pictures of green gardens :-).

I nested in '82 and began converting a chemically harmed, lawn laden property (less than an acre, or even a half acre!!) into a prairie and wild flower sanctuary !! It's brought me peace and joy ... And nearbys interest, fascination and joy .. And wild things food and security .. I relate to the beauty mr. (forgot his name, sorry) lovingly created .. power to the nutters!!

Any tips for someone wanting to do this on a .5 to 1 acre plot? How did you prep the soil and who did you order your seeds from?

I just left a note for you .. Somewhere ..??!!?

Initial prep, as I know and did it .. I started by renting a sod lifter and removing all the alien grass/lawn. Then I did something that is no longer recommended .. That's roto tilling .. When you roto till you give opportunity to dormant seeds to spring into life!!! So, instead just use a shovel or pitch fork to loosen to soil. Then comes serious prep!! Design!?? !!

My property is ‘bout 50’ x 130ish!!! And (thankfully) not level .. So the slopes and mini hills gave me more options in design. I would send you some photos but I don't know how in this ???venue??

Once your soil is bare, decide how much you want to do at a time … for expense and energy I did a section at a time. If you want to do all at once, yourself, you know best how to pace youself… goin' to send this now ‘ cause I thought I lost it!!!!👵🙋

I laughed aloud at the two bears’ sleeping off all the goodies they had eaten! And the elephant’s quick action in saving the drowning gazelle was inspiring! Thanks, J, for this inspiring smorgasbord.
